Washing Machine Buying Advice
As a business, we regularly find ourselves in a position whereby customers ask for advice on what Washing Machine they should buy next. There are plenty of good options out there, but in our view, what machine you should opt for depends on your circumstances. Households are different, so what may suit one household might not suit the next. The main points to consider when making your next purchase are………………..
* Drum size
* Spin speed
* Length of guarantee
Machines are very different to what they were ten years ago in terms of the above points. A spin speed of 1200rpm and a drum size of no more than 6kg was considered ‘high spec’. On top of this, a standard twelve month guarantee was the norm. Nowadays, it’s not unheard of for normal domestic machines to have an 1800rpm spin speed, and a drum size of 10kg! Throw in the odd five year guarantee that can be available on certain machines, and you can see how things have changed.
But what does your household need? As a general rule, higher spec equals higher cost, so be mindful of making a purchase that suits your requirements. For example, if there’s maybe one or two adults in a household, do you need a 10kg drum? Probably not. Alternatively, if you live in a household with two adults and five children, would a 6kg/1200rpm machine be adequate? Again, probably not. The point here is you must consider what you need, and choose the right option for you. Don’t be bamboozled by a salesperson, and don’t pay over the odds for a specification that you don’t actually need.
Machines with guarantees of two years and upwards are becoming more common nowadays, so look out for these as they make excellent selling points. Extended warranties will always be available to purchase, but if a manufacturer is going to give you an extended guarantee free of charge, then it may be worth considering.
After sales service is another consideration. Regardless of how much you spend, there’s always the chance that you may have to call upon a manufacturers repair agent to put something right with your machine. As a repair company ourselves, we don’t deal with all manufacturers, so it’d be wrong of us to comment on manufacturers service that we have no first hand experience of. However, as the repair agents for AEG, Beko, Electrolux, and Zanussi, we can speak with some authority about the level of service you can expect to receive with those brands. We can tell you that we’re a local, family-run business, who have been established for nearly forty years. Or, you could take a look at the reviews page on our website (click here) to get some impartial feedback on our service. Please take a look and see what you think.
The main part of our business is the service/repair of domestic appliances, so whilst we may sell appliances from time to time, you will actually be dealing with a repair company rather than a salesperson. We know the appliances inside out, so we feel we are well placed to give you good advice.
